Led by dressmaker Jolanta Cerniauskiene, this popular one-day workshop will give you the know-how and confidence to work with high-end fabrics such as chiffon and silk satin.

Using a domestic sewing machine, you will learn a range of techniques such as French seam, pin hem, machine rolled hem with and without fishline, bias cut binding, button loops, satin stitch and pockets time permitting. You will come away with your own samples for each technique learnt in the class.

This workshop is open to anyone who knows how to use a sewing machine. Please bring a notebook to take notes.

About the tutor

Jolanta Cerniauskiene is a qualified and professional Fashion Technical Demonstrator at London Metropolitan University, with 25 years of fashion industry experience. She has worked for top couture designers, such as Zandra Rhodes, Eley Kishimoto, Kitty Joseph amongst others, and prior to this spent 10 years working for major high street brands. She has advanced knowledge of all sewing techniques and how to adapt them to a variety of fabrics, from high performance materials to luxury silks, as well as a meticulous understanding of garment cut, construction and finish.

Registration: Please check your confirmation email for the registration time of your workshop. If the registration time for your workshop is before 11am, please ring the intercom on arrival. For health and safety reasons, it is not possible to admit participants earlier than the registration time.

On arrival: Upon entry, please present your ticket(s) on your device or a note of your booking reference number.

Eating and drinking: No food or drink is permitted in the Museum, other than bottled water. The Fashion and Textile Museum is located in the heart of Bermondsey Street, surrounded by award-winning restaurants, cafes and pubs.
