Join legendry fashion designer and founder of the Fashion and Textile Museum Dame Zandra Rhodes as she shares highlights from her insightful memoir ICONIC. Zandra will be in conversation with Head of Exhibitions Dennis Northdruft as they delve into Zandra’s colorful career in fashion which spans over fifty years.

The conversation will be peppered with tales of rockstars and royalty, of life-changing friendships and poignant reflections on her personal triumphs and tragedies, as well as the fears, sacrifices and pressures that come with being an era-defining designer.

The talk begins at 18:00 and will last approximately 75 minutes. Copies of Iconic: My Life in Fashion in 50 Objects will be on sale at the event and Zandra will be available for signing after the talk. Entry to the current exhibition is included in the event ticket, attendees are welcome to view the show before the talk.

About the speakers

Dame Zandra Rhodes has been a leading figure of the fashion industry for over five decades, celebrating her 50th year in fashion in September 2019 with a retrospective exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London, which she founded. Her skill as a print designer combined with an affinity for fine fabrics and colour has resulted in a signature aesthetic that is undeniably unique and continues to stand the test of time. She has dressed some of the world’s most stylish men and women from Freddie Mercury, Elizabeth Taylor and Diana Ross to Bianca Jagger, Debbie Harry and Princess Diana. She has also created costumes, winning an Emmy Award in the process. She has appeared in multiple television shows, from the cult series Absolutely Fabulous to MasterChef and The Real Marigold Hotel. In 2015, she was made a Dame in recognition of her contribution to fashion and textiles.

Dennis Nothdruft  is Head of Exhibitions at the Fashion and Textile Museum. He has led the exhibitions team at the Museum since it was founded by Zandra Rhodes in 2003 and previously spent many years working as a design assistant in Zandra Rhodes studios in both San Diego and London. He has lectured widely on many aspects of fashion and textiles and has authored several books including Zandra Rhodes 50 Fabulous Years in Fashion, How to Draw like a Fashion designer, How to Draw Vintage Fashion and Kaffe Fassett the Artist’s Eye.
