Kick off your weekend early and join us for a special Thursday Museum Late opening of Costume Couture: Sixty Years of Cosprop. Enjoy iconic costumes and a glass of fizz in a relaxed evening setting.
Since 1965, Cosprop has transformed the world of costume design. Founded by Oscar and BAFTA-winning designer John Bright, this legendary London-based company specialises in period costume for film, TV, and theatre. Over the decades, Bright’s sharp eye and deep knowledge have shaped thousands of productions.
Now, for the first time, many of Cosprop’s most celebrated costumes are on public display. See Helena Bonham Carter’s dress from A Room with a View and Meryl Streep’s look from Out of Africa. In addition, the exhibition showcases pieces from the wardrobes of Downton Abbey and Peaky Blinders. Also featured are Colin Firth’s iconic Mr Darcy tailcoat and breeches, plus Leslie Manville’s gowns from Mrs Harris Goes to Paris.
Cosprop has dressed some of the most memorable characters in award-winning productions. Through dazzling costumes, accessories, and original sketches, you’ll discover how designs evolve from script to screen.
This exhibition is a celebration of sixty years of Cosprop’s creativity and a unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of this celebrated costume house.
