This short course is run in collaboration with Newham College Fashion and Tailoring and takes place in person at the Fashion and Textile Museum. This course is suitable for students 18+.
This five-day beginner short course will teach you how to draft patterns from standard blocks for various fashion styles alongside the relevant pattern cutting terminology. You will develop skills to enable you to draft accurate patterns with the correct annotations and how to add seam allowances. Topics covered include techniques to shape patterns such as dart manipulation, adding volume and flair, and various sleeve styles such as bell, puff, raglan.
You will be learning new skills each session culminating in a file of pattern cutting technique samples and fully realised pattern pieces.
On completion you will receive a certificate of attendance.
This course is ideal for beginners. An ability to sew is desirable.
Hard pencils, sharpener, eraser, pins, stationary file with sleeves, paper scissors, fabric scissors, notebook and pen. Calico will be available to purchase by the metre.
Metre rules, pattern masters, weights and pattern paper.

Registration: Please check your confirmation email for the registration time of your course. If the registration time for your course is before 11 am, please ring the intercom on arrival. For health and safety reasons, it is not possible to admit participants earlier than the registration time.
On arrival: Upon entry, please present your ticket(s) on your device or a note of your booking reference number.
Eating and drinking: No food or drink is permitted in the Museum, other than bottled water. The Fashion and Textile Museum is located in the heart of Bermondsey Street, surrounded by award-winning restaurants, cafes and pubs. So, if you would like to enjoy a meal or a drink before or after your visit, there is plenty to choose from.
