Learn how to incorporate shape, colour, motifs and form when designing a pattern for a home textile.
Discover what’s onDesign and paint a pattern for a home textile! Under the guidance and expertise of textile pattern-painter Sarah Campbell, you’ll leave this workshop with enough hand-painted cloth to perk up your home and make an accessory of your choice – a cushion, a wall-hanging or throw.
In this one-day workshop, participants will start by playing on paper with guidance on how to consider shape, colour, motifs and form when designing a pattern for home textiles. Sarah will guide the small group (maximum 10 participants) through understanding mark making, colour balance and tonal contrast. You’ll be encouraged to consider your own colour harmonies and spend time experimenting with colourfast textile inks on fabric.
People of all abilities and skill levels are welcome and there’ll be no pressure to produce finished work – it’s a day to enjoy an inspiring time and to learn and practise new skills to take home.
All materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own favourite brushes, paints and sketchbooks too.
